All about the Event
You can hear a battered, overdriven Western guitar. An organ opens up the sound, and at times a dark synthesizer slips in as well. It could be called “fuzz folk” or simply filed under the broad umbrella of indie; they could be described as “Big Thief, only in German,” “early Tocotronic, but later,” or “Isolation Berlin from Vienna” — but comparisons are never quite that simple. The obscure, poetic German-language lyrics are a loud confrontation with depression and, in the end, always build a bridge to society, from the microcosm to the macrocosm. They are alternative love songs, for mindfulness, for confidence, for: Endless Wellness.
This sense of security, of togetherness, can be felt far beyond the band context — without having released a single song, Endless Wellness had already earned themselves a closely connected fan community, which promptly bought up all the tickets for their shows at Chelsea and Rhiz on Vienna’s Gürtel. No wonder: when the band is on stage, you almost want to get up there too and join in, have fun. Their songs are an attempt to channel the feeling of collective exhaustion into a shared, loud act of defiance — against a dysfunctional system marked by failed climate policy and a resurgent fascism. These are songs to listen to alone or to dance to together, shaking the weight off your shoulders. It’s an ambivalent tension hovering between the urgent music and the lyrics about existential fears. In this way, Endless Wellness manage to capture our time and its ghosts and transform them into melancholic but comforting warmth. That can happen with humour, with harmonies, and definitely with distortion.
