At the heart of Local Heroes is the belief that regional artists deserve to be seen not only as support acts, but as independent voices within Salzburg’s music scene. The series provides a professional platform to make that happen, with high-quality sound and lighting, experienced crews and a fully equipped stage.

For many artists, Local Heroes offers an important opportunity to gain live experience and get a first-hand insight into professional concert production. From soundcheck to showtime, participants experience a level of professionalism rarely found in traditional newcomer formats.

The series embraces the full diversity of Salzburg’s music scene. From indie and alternative to hip-hop, electronic music and experimental sounds, Local Heroes welcomes artists across genres and styles.

Over the years, Local Heroes has featured many artists who have gone on to become established names in Austria’s music landscape, alongside promising new talents. Bands such as Bilderbuch, Steaming Satellites and Please Madame are just a few examples of artists who have been part of the series on their way up.

Each band plays a 45-minute set that should consist mainly of original material. Local Heroes sees itself not only as a concert format, but as a shared experience: the participating acts actively help shape the evening, do the soundcheck together, and get to know the workings of a professional event first-hand.

The bands support promotion of the event in their own circles. The fee is paid as a share of the ticket revenue.

The broadcaster FS1 regularly accompanies the Local Heroes series with interviews and live recordings. Past editions can also be watched afterwards via the channel playlists .
