Musical chemistry is rare and hard to pin down. With Andy Platts and Shawn Lee, the creative minds behind Young Gun Silver Fox, that special connection was there from the very beginning. For more than ten years, they have shaped the band’s distinctive sound together and built a loyal fan base — including names like Hans Zimmer, Jeff Lynne and The Black Pumas.

Both musicians had already found success before Young Gun Silver Fox: Shawn Lee made a name for himself as a producer, multi-instrumentalist and solo artist, while Andy Platts became known as the frontman and songwriter of the British soul band Mamas Gun. Together, they also wrote the title track for Take That’s successful album This Life.

The two met on MySpace. Their shared enthusiasm for the elegant pop and soul music of the 197s — from Hall & Oates, Steely Dan and Ned Doheny, for example — led to the 2015 debut album West End Coast. The record struck exactly the right chord at the time and became an important contribution to the rediscovery of the so-called “yacht rock” sound.

With the following albums AM Waves (2018), Canyons (202) and Ticket To Shangri-La (2022), the band continued to evolve. Their blend of sophisticated arrangements, catchy melodies and first-rate songwriting earned them international acclaim, sold-out shows and fans around the world.

Their fifth album, Pleasure

was released in 2025. For the first time, Andy and Shawn developed a large part of the material together on site, instead of exchanging ideas exclusively by email. More than half of the ten songs were created during joint studio sessions in Andy’s studio in Norfolk. This new way of working gave the album extra energy and marked an important step in the duo’s development.

Today, Young Gun Silver Fox continue to build on their strengths and steadily evolve their sound. What began as a homage to the West Coast sound has long since become a musical signature of its own — shaped by the extraordinary creative partnership between Andy Platts and Shawn Lee.
