Ensiferum (FIN)

The last time that Ensiferum left the studio with a new album, the world promptly shut down due to the covid pandemic. The Finnish folk-metal Melodeath sensation maintained a prolific release schedule since their first demo in 1997, gradually increasing in stature until eighth album Thalassic crowned their ascent in 2020. The nautical opus went on to top Finland's album chart, reaching #3 in Germany, and top ten in Switzerland, Canada and the USA. Eventually Ensiferum would take Thalassic on two massive world tours and to festivals like Wacken, Hellfest, Summer Breeze and Ragnarök, but the global health hoo-hah ensured that the four-year wait for Winter Storm is the longest in the band's near-30-year history.

Die Band um Gründungsmitglied, Sänger und Gitarrist Chris Bay hat insgesamt 11 Studioalben veröffentlicht, darunter ihr sensationelles Debüt „Stairway To Fairyland“, drei eindringliche Live-Veröffentlichungen und ein Compilations-Album. FREEDOM CALL sind auf den Bühnen allgegenwärtig und haben nicht nur mit SAXON, EDGUY, DRAGONFORCE, BLIND GUARDIAN und HAMMERFALL getourt, sondern auch weltweit erfolgreiche Headliner Touren sowie alle großen Festivals von WACKEN über SWEDEN ROCK, MASTERS OF ROCK, BARCELONA ROCK FEST, HELLFEST, GRASPOP oder die renommierte 70.000 TONS OF METAL CRUISE gespielt. Ihre überaus melodischen Songs werden häufig als „Happy Metal“ bezeichnet und in der Tat haben FREEDOM CALL den Titel „Happiest Metal Band In The World“ mehr als verdient.  

Was 2007 als Studioprojekt unter dem Namen “The Dragonslayer Project” begann, ist heute eine feste Größe im internationalen Power Metal. Mit ihrem fünften Studioalbum „Hic Svnt Dracones“ (Okt. 2024, SPV/Steamhammer) erzählen DRAGONY eine neue, phantasievolle Geschichte über die sagenumwobene „Lost Colony“ von Roanoke – verpackt in elf hymnischen, modernen Metal-Tracks, produziert von Genre-Größe Jacob Hansen (u.a. EPICA, AMARANTHE). Nach Touren mit GAMMA RAY, SERENITY, WARKINGS und Festivalauftritten u.a. bei Wacken Open Air, Nova Rock, Masters of Rock und 70.000 Tons of Metal, ging es im März 2025 auf eine zweiwöchige Europa-Tour mit SERIOUS BLACK. Mit frischer Energie blicken DRAGONY nun dem Festivalsommer 2025 entgegen.
